Global Manufacturer SMC Planning $68M Expansion In Noblesville

SMC Corporation of America is planning to build a 1M SF distribution center at its 174-acre North American HQ in Noblesville, which will add more than 90 jobs at the site.

The company, which is already Noblesville's largest employer, is in the process of seeking tax incentives from the city for the new facility north of 146th Street and west of Howe Road, the Indianapolis Business Journal reports.

Tax abatements would save the company, which has been in Noblesville for almost 10 years, about $7M in real property taxes over the next 10 years, and more than $1.4M in personal property taxes.

SMC, a specialist in pneumatic automation equipment — control valves, vacuum parts, sensors, switches, temperature controls and the like — said it would move distribution operations from its existing 1.5M SF HQ into the new space. The vacated distribution space at the HQ would then be used for manufacturing and R&D.

According to the company, it plans to spend about $50M to build the facility. Another $18M would be spent to add manufacturing, logistical and information technology equipment.

SMC Corporation of America is a subsidiary of SMC Corporation of Japan, which has operations in 53 countries and production facilities in 29 countries.
