Several Sam's Club employees showed up to work early Thursday morning to find they no longer had a job. At least three stores in the Houston area closed effective immediately as part of a wave of unexpected Sam's Club closures across the nation. In Houston, Sam's Club locations at 1615 South Loop W. near NRG Stadium, 13331 Westheimer on Eldridge and 22296 Mark Place in New Caney have ceased operations, KHOU reports. The stores have already been removed from the Sam's Club website.

The closures come in the wake of Sam's Club's parent company Walmart announcing raises and bonuses for thousands of employees, citing the recently passed tax plan.
