Local Hero!

Houston Other

Congrats to CBRE managing director Myra Smith, who was named a Hero of the 500 by Fortune. The list highlights employees from America's biggest companies who have performed extraordinary acts of bravery, charity, ingenuity, or selflessness that transform their communities and the lives of others. In 1998, Myra started a program that delivers birthday cakes to children living in a local Houston shelter. The initiative spread across her firm and was adopted as an official CBRE philanthropic program in 2001. To date, the company has delivered more than 7,500 cakes to children in 81 shelters across 55 cities. Myra doesn't have many photos of her volunteering (she says those trips aren't about her), but she shared this pic with her sons Bobby and John Jacobs.
