Calgary-based Nova Chemical Corp., Vienna-based Borealis AG and Paris-based Total SA have formed a JV to invest $1.7B in Houston's petrochemical sector. The JV will construct an ethane steam cracker in Port Arthur adjacent to Total's existing refinery, the Houston Business Journal reports. Construction on the cracker will support a peak of 1,500 engineering and construction jobs, according to a press release. The joint venture, which Total SA will own 50% of, will also include Total's existing polyethylene plant and another new facility, both in Bayport.
