Downtown Hotel Gets New Look & New Name

Placeholder

The Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown will open under a new/old name—The Whitehall—when renovations are completed on April 14. (The hotel first opened as The Whitehall Hotel in 1963.)

The 259-room hotel at 1700 Smith was purchased by Sotherly Hotels for more than $30M in 2013. The company then embarked on a $5M renovation, which included improvements to guest rooms, meeting areas, the lobby and the restaurant, according to the Houston Business Journal.

The Brazos restaurant will reopen as a Tex-Mex restaurant, and will feature a new bar.

The original Whitehall was closed in 1999. It had a $25M renovation and then opened as the Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown in 2001. [HBJ ]
