Hillwood Communities, founded in 1988 by Ross Perot Jr., is expanding its master planned community offerings to Houston.

The first Houston community, Pomona, recently opened on 1,000 acres in Manvel, south of Houston, according to the Houston Business Journal. Now, Hillwood is looking for land in areas with good schools and great access to major highways across the southwest to northeast swath of Houston. Nothing is under contract.

Hillwood has 13 communities in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area and a rep told the HBJ they’d like to see Houston be just as active.

General manager for the Houston region Russ Bynum will oversee land acquisition and development. The company plans to grow by one or two communities per year and has similar plans for Austin. [HBJ]
