'East Village' Set To Revitalize East Downtown

An East End neighborhood of warehouses, commercial buildings and small houses that sits under the 59 overpass probably doesn’t sound like it offers much for Houston's party scene. But this small area along St. Emanuel and Hutchins Street is the new site of a development that will be anchored by a vodka distillery, Our/Houston, and promises to revitalize the area.

Ancorian announced plans to build out a two-block mixed-used complex that will include creative office, the Secret Group comedy club, retail, and a space apparently reserved for an Airbnb rental, as well as Our/Houston. It will be called East Village.

Our/Houston will occupy about 4,200 SF at 2118 Lamar, which will be a venue as well as a distillery.  The 8th Wonder Brewery, about two blocks away, will team up with the vodka brand to host street festivals and block parties, and will be leased out for charity events, public receptions and private parties, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Ancorian was founded by Neil Martin and Michael Sperandio, formerly of Finial Group, and their third partner Matthew Donowho.

One half of the two-block development was designed by the Austin firm Michael Hsu, and the other by Māk Studio Architecture.

The launch is set for later this year.  [Chron]
