What is the next number in this sequence, 1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221, 312211? BBVA Compass’ Andrés Cueto was the first to respond correctly, and explained the pattern in a clear way: Each number is the enumeration of the previous number’s digits. So if the last number is 312211, it would be described as: one 3, one 1; two 2s, two 1s. So the next number would be 13112221.
