Healthcare Explosion?

Medical Resort at Bay Area

What else is going on in Pasadena? Two healthcare projects are under construction along Beltway 8, including Medical Resort at Bay Area. Administrator Ron Hatton tells us it'll be the first project of its kind in Houston, an upscale short-term rehab clinic with a resort feel. The 56k SF facility will feature 101 beds in private suites, 24-hour nursing, and rec areas designed to help people recovering from surgeries. (We've never wanted a bad knee so badly.) Ron tells us this location is ideal because of the plethora of physicians nearby and the large population of senior citizens in Pasadena. The facility should get its certificate of occupancy this week. Ron says it may remain one-of-a-kind here, but the developer is eying some long-term senior living developments in the Houston metro.

Kelsey Seybold has a 36k SF facility under construction just down the street. VP Nicholas Ro tells us it's an expansion (more than doubling, plus adding new services) and relocation of the Pasadena hospital it opened in 1995. It was drawn to the visibility and proximity to new residential and retail development the Beltway offers. The facility, designed by Kirksey and built by Gamma Construction, broke ground in July and will complete late this spring. Kelsey Seybold holds additional land that would allow it to expand to 54k SF on this site.
