First Private LEED Platinum For Boulder

1738 Pearl St in Boulder, which Seattle-based Unico Properties recently redeveloped, achieved LEED Platinum for Core & Shell Development. With this certification, the property is Boulder’s first privately owned LEED Platinum building. Energy-efficient design and tech was incorporated into the redevelopment in a cost-effective manner, Unico senior sustainability manager Adam Knoff tells us. Among other things, 1738 Pearl St is 26% more energy-efficient than a standard building for its same size and type.

The building also has the distinction—which every landlord wants—of being 100% occupied. "Forward-thinking buildings attract forward-thinking tenants," says Unico VP and regional director Austin Kane. Another first for Boulder is the installation of electrochromic (self-tinting) windows that reduce the need for shades, reduce solar heat gain, increase energy savings, and maintain views and connection to the environment for tenants.
