Sally Beauty Leaving Denton, Moving HQ To Plano
Plano will add a familiar new name to its roster of corporate headquarters — Sally.
City officials announced beauty product retailer Sally Beauty Holdings plans to move its corporate headquarters to the Legacy West development. Sally Beauty will lease 140K SF of office space at 7900 Windrose Ave. and relocate around 600 employees to the city.
The company’s headquarters has been in Denton for more than 40 years. The retailer sold its headquarters to Denton County for $45M in September and has been leasing the building since then while looking for a new home.
Sally Beauty could add more employees over the next decade due to the move, according to CEO Denise Paulonis.
“With this move, we will create our workplace of the future, offering a hub of culture and community that will drive enhanced collaboration and innovation and support Sally Beauty Holdings’ ongoing recruitment and talent retention efforts,” Paulonis said in a statement.
The company has faced financial challenges for years, closing 350 stores in 2022, selling its 114K SF distribution building and 13 acres to Denton County for $12M in 2019, and laying off headquarters staff in 2018.
For the quarter that ended on Dec. 31, Sally Beauty had $938M in consolidated net sales, which was up less than 1% over the prior year. For the year ahead, the retailer projects comparable sales will be flat compared to 2024.
In 2023, the company launched its low-cost spinoff brand Happy Beauty Co., which has 10 stores in Dallas-Fort Worth. The chain has more than 3,000 Sally Beauty stores in 11 countries and owns more than 1,300 stores through its Beauty Systems Group subsidiary, according to its website.
The move to Plano follows KFC’s relocation to the city and adds to the list of global brands with headquarters and corporate offices at Legacy West. That includes Toyota Motor North America, Liberty Mutual, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay North America, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America.
“The growing emphasis on quality work environments highlights the value of walkability and access to nearby amenities — qualities that Legacy West exemplifies as a premier destination for corporations,” Plano Economic Development Director Doug McDonald said in a statement.
CBRE’s John Roper and Travis Sapaugh represented Sally Beauty in the deal, while Cushman & Wakefield’s Matt Schendle, Carrie Halbrooks, Travis Boothe and Mary Frances Burnette represented landlord Liberty Mutual.
While Sally Beauty isn’t moving from out of state, corporate relocations to Texas have cooled since the turn of the decade when companies were stampeding to the Lone Star State. But 2024 was the first year since 2021 that Texas corporate relos inched up, and site selection experts say 2025 is already setting up to come in hot.
