Who's Taking Over Strip Centers?

Placeholder

Look for quick service restaurants (think Chipotle, Einstein Bagels, and Pei Wei) to continue their growth statewide. QSRs have taken over the smaller outparcel strip retail centers that are dominating new retail development around the state, says Retail Solutions founder David Simmonds (moderator at Bisnow’s Dallas Retail Update on Oct 28—you can still register here). Along with those QSRs are a migration of medical facilities (dentists, urgent care, and eye care, etc.) moving out of traditional MOBs. Services like nail and hair salons and dry cleaners are picking up again, too, David tells us. Another category not taking a breather are the mattress store retailers. (Now that retail transactions are once again "quick," everyone has free time for naps.)

The discount retailers are seeing some shake up, too, David tells us. Retail Solutions is handling the disposition of about a half-dozen Family Dollar stores across the state, as the company is in a major contraction mode. When he’s not shopping for deals, David likes to hang out with his kids and go fishing; he admits that he’s just a big kid at heart.
