A New Deck Park Will Connect Oak Cliff To Zoo

Placeholder

A new plan to build a deck park over I-35 would connect central Oak Cliff to the Dallas Zoo. The project is the brainchild of locals Katherine Homan and Paul Carden, who used Klyde Warren Park as a model for a picturesque deck park that would extend over the highway between Beckley and Ewing.

The project would be added to the $665M Southern Gateway plan to rebuild I-35 and I-67, according to the Oak Cliff Advocate.

The deck park would add about $50M to the price tag. The city would be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the park. The neighbors also wanted pedestrian amenities such as access across the freeway.

According to the Advocate, the regional transportation council is likely to approve the plan when it meets today. [TA]
