MONKEYING AROUND

MONKEYING AROUND
Moody Gardens

We recently   hightailed down I-45 to the grand opening of Galveston?s Moody Gardens? 10-story Rainforest Pyramid enhancement project. It began in October '09 after suffering from Hurricane Ike in 2008. Instead of simply fixing the damage, the non-profit spent $25M to recreate the rain forest on the Texas Gulf coast with its own mini Amazon River. They boast more than 1,000 exotic plants and animals: free-roaming Saki monkeys, two-toed sloths, cotton-top Tamarins and birds (and the occasional free-roaming Bisnowreporter). There's also a new tree-top canopy entrance and trail that takes guests on a bird?s eye exploration of plant and animal life. Along the 300-foot canopy walkway, guests will see a cloud forest frog exhibit, butterflies, leafcutter ants, and fruit bats that will fly from the tree tops to a new cave exhibit visible on the ground.
