BOOK IT

Instead of giving the traditional pearl gift for its 30th anniversary, MESA landscape architects opted for a gift of 80 architecture books to the American Institute of Architects Latinos in Architecture committee's book drive for local schools. Committee co-chair Perkins+Will architect Yesenia Blandn (second from left, flanked by colleague and co-chair Jimmy Castellanos and MESA associateMary Ellen Cowan and principal Robin McCaffrey) tells us that the project was envisioned as a library development program by collecting books from architects to distribute to high schools with a high percentage of minority kids that also lack an architecture program. ?We get lost and inspired in a book full of intriguing architectural images, and we tend to collect lots of them. It occurred to me that if each of us gave away a book that we don't need any longer, we could develop an amazing architectural library for local high schools.?
