The 606 Opens for Business

The highly anticipated 606 project opened to the public over the weekend to thousands of pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists who filled the $95M trail. We were also there to bring you the latest.

The seeds for The 606, aka The Bloomingdale Trail, were originally planted in the late '90s but it took years before a comprehensive plan was in place to convert the 100-year-old rail line—long ago reclaimed by nature—into a trail. The 606 runs through Wicker Park, Bucktown, Humboldt Park and Logan Square. Although several greenspace and park projects associated with it are still under construction, the park's centerpiece, its 2.7-mile multi-purpose path, was ready and received great reviews. In this photo, a couple of cyclists walk their bikes near Richmond in Bucktown.
