McCaffery Interests-Led Team to Redevelop Harold Ickes Site

Placeholder

Eight years after CHA began tearing down the Harold Ickes Homes projects a team led by McCaffery Interests unveiled plans for the site. McCaffery, along with Antunovich Associates and Community Builders, revealed the plans last Thursday night at Liberty Baptist Church in Bronzeville—a four-phase mixed-use development of 867 townhomes, and walk-up and mid-rise apartments running along State Street from 22nd to 25th streets. The Ickes site has been vacant since the last families left in 2010, according to DNAInfo. The McCaffery-led JV will earmark 204 units for CHA residents, which former Ickes residents say is half of what was promised. CHA project manager Maya Hodari and Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) said 200 units was what was promised from the onset. [DNA]
