Mixed-Use Development Planned For Urban Farm Site

Construction is underway on a $39M mixed-use development on the site of a popular urban farm near Cabrini-Green. The development, dubbed 1200 N Clybourn, is a JV of Brinshore Development and Michaels Development Co, and had been in planning since 2010.

A seven-story building will include 84 apartments, with 26 each earmarked for affordable and public housing; 17k SF of ground-floor retail; a daycare center; and a diamond-shaped public plaza, Curbed reports. The wedge-shaped site is a former city-owned parcel that was best known as the home to City Farm, a nonprofit that grew food for local charities and provided job opportunities for inner city residents. The Brinshore/Michaels JV received $8.1M in TIFs.

The new project will factor into Chicago Housing Authority's grand plan to redevelop the 65-acre Cabrini-Green site. City Farm, meanwhile, will relocate to a new home at Division and Larrabee. [Curbed]
