Tracts can't sit vacant for long downtown. Friedman Properties wants to develop one, a site next to the Friedman-owned Reid Murdoch Center.

Friedman unveiled plans for a 500-key hotel at 322 N Clark St. The 377-foot-tall building would include office space and connect to Reid Murdoch, according to Friedman Properties' zoning application with the city, Crain's reports. It would also tower over Reid Murdoch, which was built in 1914, is a designated Chicago landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Friedman plan comes as downtown is in the midst of a hotel boom. This despite fears that hotel room supply will soon outpace demand. [Crain's]
