T5 Data Centers signed a pre-lease with a leading hospital network as the first tenant of the second phase build-out at its Elk Grove Village data center. The firm was bullish on the future performance of Chicago's data center market when it bought the 208K SF data center from Forsythe Technology in 2016.

The network is migrating its existing operations to the Elk Grove Village facility to take advantage of more efficient systems and accommodate capacity demand for future growth. Chicago's location, infrastructure and population density have made it a top-three data center market, with demand from hyperscale users like Microsoft and Google and smaller enterprise users driving vacancy rates to historic lows.

T5 began its expansion last October, and the build-out will create 2 megawatts of server-ready capacity. Vice President David Horowitz said the Elk Grove Village site can accommodate another 170K SF, 16 MW facility to meet future demand.
