Data Center Planned for Former Schulze Baking Plant

Placeholder

Another data center is in Chicago's pipeline. 1547 Critical Systems Realty announced plans to redevelop half of the Schulze Baking Co building at 40 E Garfield Blvd for a data center. 1547 plans to spend $130M to repurpose 52k SF in the building.

Built in 1914 for Schulze Baking, the five-story building also produced Hostess Brands Butternut bread through 2004, and has been vacant since. Several redevelopment plans were scrapped, and the preservation group Landmarks Illinois placed the building on its 2015 list of endangered places.

Building owner Ghian Foreman of 55th and State Redevelopment has searched for tenants for the building since 2006 and believes the Schulze plant is ideal for a data center. [DNA]
