Medical District Heliport Gives Easy Access to City from O'Hare

Chicago

A new heliport's opening near the city's Medical District Thursday will give Chicagoans the opportunity to have private helicopter access almost to downtown Chicago. The 10-acre private heliport, called Veritport Chicago, opened at 1339 S Wood St as the largest in North America. The project cost developers $11M. Mayor Rahm Emanuel told DNAinfo that the new facility would serve as a key link between the city's airports and downtown. Veritport Chicago has a single takeoff and landing spot, parking for eight helicopters, and a 30K SF hangar. With its proximity to the Illinois Medical District, it could also improve emergency response times for medical patients. The trip from O'Hare International Airport to the city's center could take as little as 10 minutes. [DNAinfo]
