High Line Architect to Build U of C's Rubenstein Forum
Diller Scofidio + Renfro, best known as the architects behind New York City's High Line, have been chosen to design the University of Chicago's Rubenstein Forum. The project will be built on vacant land owned by the university at 60th Street and Woodlawn Avenue.
The building, funded by a gift from Carlyle Group founder, and U of C alumnus, David Rubenstein, is expected to be delivered in 2018 and serve as both a student union and gathering space for academics on campus.
U of C hasn't offered details on the cost of the project or the size of Rubenstein's gift. He previously donated $20M to the university's law school to establish a scholarship fund. [DNA]
