Chicago Shakespeare Theater will announce today it plans to move forward with an expansion of its Navy Pier facility. The company has raised half of the estimated $30M it needs.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater wants to build a third, larger stage inside Navy Pier's domed skyline stage area, according to Crain's. The expanded footprint is part of a bold expansion that will allow the company to court larger touring productions, and flexible enough to accommodate different stage settings from smaller presentations to theater-in-the-round productions.
The theater's expansion would be a boon for Navy Pier, which is Illinois' most-visited tourist destination. Navy Pier is in the middle of a $278M redevelopment it hopes will attract more locals. [Crain's]
