BOMA's Big Leap
Members of BOMA/Suburban Chicago gathered for its Expo 2012 on Leap Day. BOMA International education and research VP Lorie Damon (bathed in heavenly yellow glow, is that what an aura is?) addressed the membership about the organization's Experience Exchange Report. Formerly an annual report in book form, the EER is now an online database of vast proportions, detailing more than 6,500 US office buildings totaling about 1B SF in 275 markets. Lorie explained that BOMA member reports are essential to compiling the database, which has more than just academic uses. When BOMA goes to Congress to advocate for the industry, it has hard data to show just how important CRE is to the economy.

Sculptures made of packaged food graced the entrance to the convention hall. They were all part of the "BOMA-Can Construction Project" to raise money for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. There was a sofa made of cans and ramen noodles; a tower of ravioli cans; and a bowling lane paved with spaghetti boxes, featuring bottled water for pins. Bisnow is supposed to be neutral about these things, but couldn't help voting for the "Canley Cup" pictured above.
