Atlantic Packaging is opening its new Packaging Solution Center in Steele Creek. The 80K SF facility will research and test ways to ship goods.

The motive is simple enough: the boom in e-commerce. The company also plans to use the center to pitch potential customers on packaging, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Retailers will be able to use the facility to test different methods and materials for packaging goods for shipment. The Packaging Solution Center will also feature a “multi-axis transportation simulator.”

According to Atlantic, that bit of tech can duplicate the vibrations and impacts that a package might encounter in transit.

“If one of our customers is experiencing damage in transit, we can re-create that specific route to see where and how their products are failing," Atlantic President Wes Carter said in a statement. "This allows us to create customized packaging based on scientific data, virtually eliminating shipping damage and reducing overall packaging costs.”
