Enforcing the existing noise ordinance is the key to making harmonious neighbors of residents and businesses within shouting distance of live outdoor music venues, according to the official stance being taken by the NC Restaurant & Lodging Association. The City of Charlotte is crafting a new noise ordinance that wouldslap a $1,000 fine on bars and restaurants found violating the law. Two violations could result in a one-year suspension from hosting a live music event. But NCRLA's local chapter director Tom Stroozassays ?99.99%? of club owners follow the rules. Only the violators should be punished. And people could take a little personal responsibility when it comes to locating their home or business, he adds. ?Don't move next to a zoo if you don't like the smell.? No zoo animals were available for comment by press time.
