New home sales may be down, but when someone closes a door, a window opens—in an apartment. Charlotte-based Crescent Resources has filed a rezoning petition for a 10-story apartment building at Carnegie Boulevard near Assembly Street.

The building could contain as many as 350 rental units and ground-floor space for small shops. A public hearing is scheduled for later this month. The tentatively titled ?Piedmont II? doesn't have a proposed start date yet, says Crescent exec Tim Dison, but this year's a safe bet: ?Multifamily is one sector we believe will be in favor the next several years.?
