LIVE THEATRE FOR DERITA
Property owner David Ratcliffe (of the locally renowned Ratcliffe floral family) has filed a rezoning petition

Charlotte poet and playwright Curtis Chisolm wants to bring a taste of culture to the (often overlooked) Derita area of Charlotte. And his prospective landlord's working to make it happen. Property owner David Ratcliffe (of the locally renowned Ratcliffe floral family) has filed a rezoning petition to allow part of a 24k SF building he owns at West Sugar Creek and Mineral Springs roads to be used as a community theatre and lounge. (He's seeking a change to mixed-use from business.) Curtis, who couldn't be reached, would operate the theatre, which would host locally produced plays, musical performances, and poetry slams, David tells us. The venue would be called ?The Nile Community Theatre? and also be home to an acting studio. A public hearing on the request is set for July 18.
