KNIGHTS ONE STEP CLOSER TO HOME

KNIGHTS ONE STEP CLOSER TO HOME
Knights GM Dan Rajkowski

The Charlotte Knights might actually play a home game in Charlotte, but there are still challenges ahead (including the legal variety). The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners voted this week to give preliminary approval to a plan that would allow the Fort Mill-based ball club about another year to develop a financing strategy for moving the White Sox farm club to a site in uptown Charlotte. Knights GM Dan Rajkowski (above, trying to ignore an adoring microphone) and his team also has to craft a proposal that won't cost the county any extra money and have the Knights take the field in Charlotte by '14. But Charlotte attorney Jerry Reese, who for 10 years has been trying to get a major league team uptown  instead of the Knights, has still got some zip in his fastball. He plans a social media blitz to win some public opinion. He also will begin pursuing development options in surrounding counties. And he's not ruled out taking his arguments to court—again. ?This Board, the Knights, and anyone who might consider being involved with this ill-advised  project is hereby forewarned and put on notice,? Jerry says.
