GREEN MARKET TAKES ROOT UPTOWN
Charles ?Buddy? Leatherman hawks his wares at the Center City Green Market

Buddy Leatherman, who owns Leatherman Farms in Vale, was among the dozen or so vendors set up at Trade and Tryon Streets as the annual Center City Green Market opened late last week. It's a welcome sight for uptown denizens, who feel bereft of fresh grocery options. Under a deep blue canopy, Buddy was selling his own squash, zucchini, and fresh strawberries, along with his own brand of preserves, honey, and blackberry cider. Nearby, florist Lee Seng Yang sold mixed bouquets of poppies, larkspur, peonies, and snap dragons. Other vendors included Bijoux (pastries and fresh baguettes), Seafoods.com, Unity Farms, and Florio?s (infused oils and dressings to season all that green stuff). The market will run Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm through September.
