Apartments produce a lot of trash. But the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association claims a ?significant victory? for Charlotte apartment owners in the garbage wars. NC Superior Court Judge William Constangy in December ruled that the current City of Charlotte solid waste disposal policies constitute ?unlawful, unreasonable, and arbitrary discrimination? toward multifamily property owners. The city's current policy only honors owner-paid disposal fees for apartment properties that hire the city's chosen disposal contractors for supplemental trash collection. The judge decided multifamily property owners should be allowed to provide supplemental trash collection ?without regard to the provider the Multi-Family Complex may choose.?
