The inaugural BusinessFirst Charlotte Confidence Index recentlymade its debut, and the Little Town that Could remains optimistic about the future. Some 500 local business leaders were surveyed on six questions about the economic outlook. An index value greater than 50 suggests a bullish attitude, while an index below 50 showing negative expectations. Charlotte businesses scored the local economy a 63.2, and the US a 60.2. ?Overall, Mecklenburg County business leaders are confident about the local and national economy,? concluded the report, which is intended to be conducted locally every quarter as a kind of business barometer. Charlotte businesses were also upbeat about their company sales, profits, hiring plans, and capital expenditures.The Confidence Index is a JV of the Charlotte Chamber, the City of Charlotte, and UNC Charlotte, among others.
