Balfour Beatty named construction manager at risk for RDU's $63M renovation of Terminal 1

Raleigh-Durham International Airport?s $63M renovation of Terminal 1

now has a construction manager at risk: Charlotte-based Carolinas division of global contracting giant Balfour Beatty Construction, in partnership with D.H. Griffin Co of Greensboro. A target start date has been set for March 1, 2012, and should be complete by Aug. 1, 2013. The Terminal 1 project is timed to begin after the completion this year of the airport?s $570M Terminal 2 renovation. (They won't even have to put their tools away.) Terminal 1 improvements will include a renovation of the 150k SF existing terminal, a new roof, skin, finishes, exterior canopies, and upgraded mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The project further includes new elevators and escalators, an extended security platform and a new baggage handling system.
