Can the empty Eastland Mall really become a home to sound stages?  That's the idea being floated now that the City of Charlotte has bought the property for $13.2M. Bisnow was unable to reach the movie producer who's floating the idea, but we did talk to a Charlotte-area retail specialist familiar with the property but not involved with plans for it. ?Retail still makes sense there in some sort of scaled-down version, with the right retailers,? he told us. ?But the ownership needs to be sorted out. In addition to the mall component that the city bought, the department stores still own all their buildings.? Empty mall? Movie? Might we suggest zombies.
