Cannabis facility specialist AmeriCann is preparing to develop the first phase of the Massachusetts Medical Cannabis Center (MMCC), which it plans as one of the largest cannabis cultivation facilities in the nation.

“The legalization of cannabis for all adults in Massachusetts significantly expands the need for the infrastructure to serve both patients and consumers," AmeriCann CEO Tim Keogh said. Nearly 1M SF has been approved for development at his firm's site.

AmeriCann acquired 53 acres in Freetown for the development earlier this year, and has tapped Campanelli Construction to build the facility. The first phase of the greenhouse complex will include two buildings of 130k SF and 30k SF, and the second phase is permitted for 800k SF or more, based on demand.

It's part of a larger push by the company to develop facilities nationwide. AmeriCann recently completed a $2M all-equity financing that will be used in part for the MMCC, but also to pursue opportunities in California, Pennsylvania, Florida and other states.
