We snapped Brown Rudnick's Tom Phillips (left) with Boston Urban's Jonathan Dutch a few days ago at a breakfast to mark the opening of retail at Fan Pier. Tom represented The Fallon Company and Cornerstone in negotiating their new office building's leases for Louis and Nick Varano's two restaurants. Another of his clients recently raised a $75M private equity fund from European and Middle East investors to buy distressed Northeast retail properties. The challenge: finding product at the expected return. He's also representing an international retailer entering the U.S. market with 6 ? 12 Boston area store sites. While still a viable retail market, the recession has knocked down some barriers to entry, with more space available at lower rents.
