CUTTING EDGE
General Motors, GM, White Marsh, expansion, electric vehicles, expansion, manufacturing
General Motors broke ground Tuesday on the first plant for electric vehicle parts in the US. GM's Mary Ann Brown tells us building costs for the addition to GM's existing 471k SF facility are $243M, with $26.5M for manufacturing parts. It'll produce two-mode hybrid and heavy duty transmissions (car buffs, please tell us what that means). It's expected to open in 2013 and will be powered in part by solar panels from Constellation Energy, which will save $330k in operating costs over the life of the project. Sounds like this green thing is taking off, doesn't it?
