Already known for its absurdly large travel centers, the new location will be its most spacious yet. Luling’s current store, located about 50 miles south of Austin and built in 2003, is the chain’s flagship. Buc-ee’s now has 35 stores across Texas as well as eight locations in other states.

"Twenty years ago, Beaver and Don had the gumption to change the industry by building the first Buc-ee's Family Travel Center in Luling," Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate Stan Beard said in a statement. "Since that time, Buc-ee's has grown into an iconic Texas brand that now shares our Texas pride with new stores throughout the Southeast and West. We are humbled to have this opportunity to strengthen our roots in Texas and will continue to exceed our customers' expectations every chance we get.”

The new Luling store will include 120 pump stations and employ at least 200 people. It will be built next door to the existing location to prevent service interruptions, per the release. The largest existing Buc-ee’s store is 66K SF, with forthcoming Tennessee and Colorado stores topping out at 74K SF.

"[Buc-ee's wants] you to be in the store, they want you to walk the store,” Rafael Melara, director of leasing and investment sales at Houston-based Hunington Properties, told Bisnow. “Typically, you're in and out of a typical convenience store in two minutes. Here, it takes at least three or four or five minutes just to walk to the store [from your car].”

The company plans to break ground in the fall.
