Woodfield Development has filed permits with the city of Atlanta to begin land preparation for a 16-story apartment tower at 505 Courtland St., at the corner of Renaissance Parkway, a block from Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Woodfield is slated to develop 281 apartment units, according to a previous permit filed with the city.

Woodfield purchased the 1-acre site that was originally owned by Drapac Capital and marketed for sale by JLL last year.

The SoNo neighborhood — an area south of North Avenue in Downtown Atlanta — has been the target of more than $1B in new development in recent months, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported. But apartment development has lagged behind, relative to other parts of Atlanta, with 989 units under construction as of the first quarter, according to Haddow & Co.
