The Danish Girl!

Last night was the DC premiere of The Danish Girl, commemorating the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance at the U.S. Navy Memorial.

The screening followed an earlier event at The White House to recognize its Champions of Change program, created to recognize individuals doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities. Here, director/producer Tom Hooper is surrounded by the actors, Jake Graf, Alicia Vikander and Rebecca Root.

The film is the love story inspired by the life of Lili Elbe, one of the first transgender women to undergo gender reassignment surgery in the 1930s, and explores an important moment in LGBT history, discussed in a Q&A. The main character Lili is played by Eddie Redmayne, who wasn't in DC. The film opens here Dec. 11.
