We beat the heat by taste testing offerings from 15 different ice creameries at the fifth annual DC Scoop at Union Market’s Dock 5. We snapped ice cream enthusiasts Carolyn Chen, Candy Chin, Elise Meador and Rachael Wilke.
Over 3,000 enjoyed the DC Scoop offerings, in addition to the usual crowds at Union Market's 40 vendors. Here, Greg Mihailides, Caitlin Ingraham, Catherine Hennessey and Lauren Croda.
For the second year in row, Arlington’s Nicecream Factory won the people’s choice Best Ice Cream award. An ice cream eating contest was another highlight. The official ice cream judges were: Miss Pre-Teen Maine Jade Ridout, Arepa Zone Food Truck’s Gabriela Febres, Nicecream’s Sandra Tran and Gil Welsford, and Dolcezza’s Robb Duncan.
The free, family-friendly event featured everything from ice cream sandwiches to popsicles, and gelato. Our favorite was Ice Cream Jubilee’s gin and tonic sorbet. Here, the team from DC’s Dolcezza Gelato: Alex Allen, Violeta Edelman, Paloma Allen and Andrea Diaz.
