DC at SxSW!
DC hit Austin, Texas, hard this week for SxSW, South by Southwest, launching the WeDC House at The Historic Scoot Inn to highlight 25 DC-based tech startups, filmmakers, and innovators.
Day and night, the event powered through 72 straight hours, featuring live broadcasts, fireside chats by the Newseum, official SxSW panels, the Startup Showcase, and incredible musical performances like DC native, Grammy-nominated rapper Wale.
The showcase spotlighted DC’s diverse music scene through a variety of artists and genres, like Gallant, labeled as 2015’s breakthrough and "the voice that will redefine R&B" by Billboard.
Your publisher’s favorite band, Magic Giant, headlined by DC’s own Austin Bisnow, also played two shows at SxSW. Magic Giant has been on tour, playing to packed and enthusiastic crowds. We’re excited that their music video for Set on Fire has been streamed over a million times and viewed a quarter of a million times.
Mayor Muriel Bowser is with EventsDC CEO Greg O’Dell, who told us the innovations launched at SxSW are going to change the tech landscape of our city.
Led by the DC Economic Partnership, WDCEP, with the Mayor and EventsDC, the event featured DC tech startups like RideLeads, the first vehicle dispatch app for taxis. Its CEO, David Miller, explained the technology behind the DC Taxi App, launching nationwide.
