.Law - The New Gathering Place for Firms?

Placeholder

As Bisnow has covered, domains we know and love like .com and .gov are going to be joined by hundreds, if not thousands, of others. One new gTLD is .law. The domain will be open for purchase this October, reports the Wall Street Journal. Minds + Machines won an auction for the domain last year and will sell web addresses to only law firms and credentialed lawyers.

Three firms got free web addresses: DLA Piper, Skadden, and Russell & Goldstein. An unnamed lawyer at one of the firms commented that the new address wouldn't necessarily be a big boon, "but it certainly can't hurt." To register a .law domain, other firms or lawyers will have to pay Minds + Machines at least $200. [WSJ]
