Opponents of $750M McMillan Project Appear Before DC Council

Placeholder

A DC council hearing on Monday presented another opportunity for opponents of the $750M McMillan Sand Filtration Plant development project to voice their opinion.

The hearing was meant to consider a proposal for an extension of time from December 2016 to December 2021 for the site’s disposition by the District, the Washington Business Journal reports. The 2.1M SF redevelopment plan from Vision McMillan Partners includes 1M SF of office, a 52k SF Harris Teeter, a 17.5k SF Community Center, 6.2-acre central park and residential components. Critics of the development have long sought to have McMillan restored largely as a park and believe the District’s deal with VMP has changed substantially enough that a new competitive process is warranted.

Construction is expected to proceed in two phases with the second phase to be underway by late 2021. The first multifamily building is expected to be ready in late 2019[WBJ]
