Valor Proposes 230-Unit, Grocery-Anchored Development In AU Park

The former site of SuperFresh in AU Park could soon be home to a 230-unit residential building.

Valor Development submitted plans on Thursday for 200 apartments and 30 condos, dubbed The Ladybird, at the 4330 48th St NW site, UrbanTurf reports. This plan is the smaller option of the two development proposals it presented last year to community members.

The developer hopes to find a full-service grocery store to anchor the project, which will also include 330 parking spaces. Neighborhood residents expressed opposition to the development in an August letter, saying it would strain local infrastructure and school resources.

Perhaps because of that pushback, Valor opted to develop a project through the design review application process, a less intensive, but less flexible, set of regulations than a planned-unit development application. [UT]
