The city is looking for a developer to build up to 800 units on the Northwest One parking lot site at North Capitol and K Street NW and Tuesday night it took input from area residents.

The Office of the Deputy Mayor of Planning and Economic Development heard from residents, who called the creation of family-sized units a must-have, Urban Turf reports.

Their next priority for the 3.5-acre site was neighborhood-serving retail and restaurants, followed by homeownership opportunities, pedestrian-friendly streets and handicap accessibility. The site is right across North Capitol Street from the under-construction, dramatically designed John and Jill Ker Conway veterans supportive housing project.

The community meeting was part of a city initiative called Our RFP, in which it hears from residents before crafting an RFP for development. This RFP is expected to be released in September, with a final selection coming early next year. [UT]
