Fairmont Georgetown Unveils $27M Renovation For Inauguration, Gets 85% Booked

Just in time for the inauguration, the 413-room Fairmont hotel in Georgetown unveiled a new $27M renovation.

The makeover allowed the hotel to boost its inauguration rates roughly $300 from 2013, costing visitors an average of $1,300 for Thursday and Friday nights, but it was not enough to fill the hotel to capacity.

The hotel was 85% occupied for those two nights, according to a spokesperson for the hotel. This was an improvement from the hotel's 50% booking rate during the 2013 inauguration, but fell short of its 100% occupancy for Obama's first inauguration in 2009.

The first phase of the renovations included major upgrades to every guest room, an increase from five specialty suites to seven and the conversion of an amphitheater into the 2,900 SF Kennedy Ballroom. The second phase gave the lobby and the courtyard significant makeovers.
