Metro’s HQ is officially on the table for potential redevelopment, after a few weeks of speculation.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has issued a Request for Information on the potential redevelopment of the Jackson Graham Building at 600 5th St NW. The 308k SF, eight-story building was constructed in 1974, and is currently approved for general office use.

In addition to serving as the WMATA’s HQ, the aging building hosts rooftop radio antennae and fiber optic cables that support the entire system. Additionally, potential developers will have to account for The Red Line tunnel, which runs through the B3 level of the building.

Respondents have until May 1 to gather the required information and complete the RFI. The possibility of a HQ sale was broached earlier this month, with some estimates pegging a sale price between $110M and $140M.
