Canada's Hotel Performance Up For Q1

Canada’s hotel industry reported positive year-over-year results during the first quarter of 2017, according to STR data. The findings include:

  • Occupancy: Up 2.7% to 56.1% from 2016
  • Average daily rate: Up 2.7% to $140.17
  • Revenue per available room: Up 5.5% to $78.64

Nine of the 11 reporting provinces registered a RevPAR increase for the quarter. New Brunswick and Quebec had double-digit RevPAR growth for the quarter, up 11.8% in New Brunswick to $52.95 and up 10.1% in Quebec to $87.11. 

Prince Edward Island posted the largest increase in ADR, up 6% to $105.48. The greatest rise in occupancy was in Newfoundland and Laborador, up 9.4% to 50.8%.

Saskatchewan had the steepest declines. Occupancy was down 2.9% to 48%, ADR was down 5.4% to $120.20 and RevPAR fell 8.1% to $57.74.
